Charisma Bypass

Music Makes My Heart Sing

Charisma Bypass
Music Makes My Heart Sing is the motto of these four guys who have as much fun as their audience and will sing for anyone who will listen.

Their repertoire includes mostly great 50s & 60s numbers, along with a variety of ballads, oldies, and traditional Barbershop tunes.  Their music and antics will keep you more than entertained.

Fouray

'Four' most occasions, eh?

Jay Cousins, Brian Cullingworth, Jim Mick, and Barry Jones created Fouray in the fall of 2010. Each having sung with other quartets for over 15 years, they joined forces to sing barbershop music and compete within the Barbershop Harmony Society, winning their division’s Seniors Quartet Championship in 2011. In May 2015 Barry retired, and the young whippersnapper, Rod McDonald, close to 55 years old (the magic age to become a "senior" within the Barbershop Society), auditioned and passed to join the three older guys.

It's been a nonstop roller-coaster ride since then, expanding from competitions to more public venue performances, including birthdays, anniversaries, singing Valentines, and even a jingle for a TV advertising video. Fouray was again crowned Seniors Quartet Champions within their division in 2016 and 2018, and also created a sixteen-song CD. Just prior to 2019 Covid shutdown Fouray participated in very successful show performances at Courtenay’s Sid Williams Theatre and at Nanaimo’s Port Theatre.

Fast forward to 2023: James Chappell has replaced Rod to take the bass part, and baritone Don Dickson
has replaced Jim. Fouray has moved beyond the barbershop genre and added modern a capella arrangements from the Four Tops, the Dave Clark 5, Uncle Kracker, The Eagles and the Four Lads, to name a few.

We look forward to performing for you at your next occasion. Just contact us at alwaysthere@shaw.ca

House Blend

A perfect way to start your day...

House Blend
House Blend began when a son (Alex M) asked his father (Rod M) to sing in a quartet again. This would be the 10th ensemble, the pair have formed. Joining them would be their friends Martin K    and Alex G, who have a history with the McDonalds, having sung with several of their incarnations.

House Blend puts an emphasis on achieving vocal "lock and ring", and explores their creativity by singing their own original arrangements. In October 2023, the quartet travelled to Washington    State to compete at the Barbershop Harmony Society's Northwest District choral festival.

Lady & the Tramps

Can you spot the lady?

Lady & the Tramps

Lady & the Tramps gave their first public performance in April 2023. In September of that year, we performed in the Sounds of Summer programme in Nanaimo's Old City Quarter. Since then, we have entertained at a wedding in Vancouver, multiple shows in Victoria, Nanaimo and Qualicum Beach and many community sing-outs in the Oceanside area.

We look forward to sharing our talent and sound. It is a bit unusual for a quartet to feature three male voices and one female voice but it seems to work for us so we plan to just keep on keeping on.

Vintage Style

Great style from our vintage members!

Vintage Style

These four gentlemen decided on the name “VINTAGE STYLE” because they are all of a certain vintage! And they define “vintage” as mature and classic!

Vintage Style has been singing together for a few years and enjoy making gentle harmony in a variety of musical styles.  The quartet has a reputation for their solid harmonies and light hearted parodies and comedy pieces.

Left to Right:  Colin Payne (baritone), Glenn Harvey (bass), Mike Patterson (lead), and Alex Grant (tenor).
