Who are we looking for? We're looking for people who want to sing and are ready to attend regular practices. You don't have to read music, although this is an asset that will help you learn songs more quickly. In the end, all singers will perform for the public without holding sheet music.
If you like to sing in the shower, or find yourself whistling or singing as you work around the house or office, then you might want to try singing with an a cappella chorus.
You're welcome to come to a practice, listen, and join in if you like. If after a few visits – or even after one! – you decide you would like to join, we will give you a brief audition to determine which part would best suit your voice. We will give you access to the music and learning tracks on this website for use on any device that connects to the internet. There is an annual membership fee for the Nanaimo chapter, and you will be strongly encouraged to join the international Society as well so that our chapter can remain in good standing.
Barbershopping is a great hobby. The more than 14,000 singers around the world who are affiliated with the BHS are a great and supportive resource. The most frequent comment we hear from people who join us is: "I wish I had started years ago!"
